Like a lot of people, I have been intrigued by the development of AI for quite some time. In particular, I have been curious to know how it could impact me as a writer, as well as how it might prove to be useful in other areas of my daily life.
As a writer, I have no desire at all to publish any sort of AI story or image. However, that does not mean to say that I can find no use for AI, at least as part of the process of writing. For example, the biggest obstacle to writing anything is the blank page or screen. This is where AI can actually come in very useful indeed.
First of all, you can ask ChatGPT for a list of ideas of subjects or topics to write about. Second, you can ask the app to give you a basic plan for whatever you choose to write about. That can save a great deal of thinking time and frustration in getting started. At the very least, you will have a ready-made road map for writing an article or story. Amongst other things ChatGPT can do for a writer is provide prompts and SEO optimise any story to get higher rankings on Google.
Moving on, I decided to ask AI to give me a recipe for pasta with pesto, a dish I have prepared so many times that I have the recipe imprinted in my mind. Sure enough, ChatGPT came up with the information in seconds. The only difference between my version and the AI one is that the AI suggests you use a food processor or blender to chop and mix the ingredients, whereas I use a shape knife, and a mortar and pestle.
Another test I carried out was to ask the AI to give me a basic lesson in Japanese. Again, what I asked for came up in a matter of seconds. And since I am married to a native Japanese woman and we live in Japan, I know for a fact that the lesson was extremely useful and easy to understand.
There is a myriad of ways you can use AI (ChatGPT) such as generating ideas like what would make for a great birthday present for my ten-year-old boy or girl. I asked the question and in less than five seconds I got a list of eight suggestions covering a very wide range of gifts.
Some people have even decided to replace time on Google with time they feel is better spent on ChatGPT. That’s because when you ask Google for something it gives you two million answers, all full of ads, in twenty seconds. With ChatGPT the system homes in on a much smaller selection with no ads to trawl through.
Of course, where ChatGPT comes into its own is in processing digital tasks such as managing my emails or making a business plan for my new website. It can also be useful in creating things like a logo or drawing up a legal agreement.
One thing for sure is that AI is fast becoming an essential part of our everyday lives and is here to stay. To keep up to date on what is new in the world of AI simply click on the link above. A click will cost you nothing but will go a long way toward helping this site to remain afloat.
